Can any of you remember the original plot of Robocop? First drafts were being written back in 1984 and the story goes as follows:
"In the near future, Detroit, Michigan is on the verge of collapse due to financial ruin and unchecked crime. The mega-corporation Omni Consumer Products (OCP) enters into a contract with the city to run the police force. OCP plans to demolish "Old Detroit" and redevelop it as a high-end utopia called "Delta City."
It would seem to me that Detroit is still waiting on it's Robocop,
Robocop was released in 1987 a year that had monster classics; the likes of Full Metal Jacket, Wall Street, Princess Bride and The Untouchables, and some fan favorite cult classics; Lost Boys, Predator, Planes Trains and Automobiles, Evil Dead II, Hellraisers and Spaceballs... does Garbage Pail Kids the movie count?.
I will also add Lethal Weapon, Fetal Attraction and Dirty Dancing to the list of memorable films (the later of which I am not a fan). Despite a plethora of great films being released in 1987, Robocop was /is still being recognized as one of the best of the bunch.
It spawned a couple of sequels, a tv series, a toy line and a slew of other franchise money makers.
I loved the original, and even re watching it today, I still enjoy it..
Can the reboot generate the same fanfare as the original or are we now immune to these shame........less reboots?
My anticipation for this film is greater than that of the Total Recall remake , if only because Robocop 2.0 will feature Gary Oldman, Samuel L Jackson and Michael Keaton
Anyways, enough talk, watch the trailer below
