The Sci-Fi blockbuster hit sequel was apparently set to be released for summer 2015 (another 2015 summer big budget movie), however, according to master of disaster films Roland Emmerich Independence Day 2 has been pushed back to 2016.
Celebrating a 20th anniversary perhaps?
The question everyone is asking is whether or not Will Smith will reprise his role as the title hero Captain Steven Hiller .
Emmerich has stated that all main characters have been written in the script for the upcoming sequel, but there is also a second version of a script which omits Will Smiths character.
The 1996 cast included Bill Pullman, Randy Quaid, Jeff Goldblum, and Vivica A. Fox to name a few.
