Reviews on upcoming...part deux

Reviews on upcoming...part deux

Aligning myself with the more popular current TV shows,
There are so many simply awful shows on TV right now ( I'm looking at you 2 1/2 Shitty Jokes..I mean ->Men and Big Bang I don't give a fuck), but thank goodness that the good ones are great.
I am first and foremost a movie fanatic, hence my attraction to shows which in turn could be mini movies.
I'm not sure which shows I'm looking forward to watch the most this year but in no particular order here are the following that I think are all worthy of a watch.

Sons Of Anarchy - Season 6 (Debut TBD) on FX
Game of Thrones - Season 3 (March 13th 2013) on HBO
Breaking Bad - Final Season (July 24th 2013) on HBO
The Walking Dead - Season 3  (February 10th) on AMC
American Horror Story: Asylum - Season 2 (still ongoing) Wednesday's 10pm on FX

Reviews on upcoming TV shows and new seasons

Has TV ever sucked this much.
Competition reality shows are (not) amazing, pining one humans against another for entertainment is god damn silly.
Millions upon millions of people tuning in to watch people sing, dance or whatever else they do, are we programmed to celebrate mediocrity?
Maybe I'm missing something?!?
Perhaps adding something on The Voice, where final competitors fight to the death during the final episode with Ginsu knifes, which by the way -have lifetime warranties so they could in fact recycle these murderous weapons for upcoming seasons.
The little that I do know about these shows is that there always seems to have judges with no credentials judging contestants.

Moving on to more pleasantly entertaining shows;

The Following (Fox January 21st)
The new Kevin Bacon show "The Following" probably wont cant cancelled. <-- that was kinda positive.
But yes...i do anticipate this to be a fun filled family show.
Here's the synopsis:
"A brilliant and charismatic, yet psychotic serial killer communicates with other active serial killers and activates a cult of believers following his every command."

Bates Motel (A&E March 18th)
As previously posted here at Steal This Review headquarter aka my living room, I'm really looking forward to Bates Motel.
Synopsis:
"This film (TV series ) intends to give viewers an intimate understanding of how Norman Bates' psyche developed from his childhood through his teen years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted back story and learn first hand how his mother, Norma, and her lover damaged Norman, helping forge the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history"

Hannibal (NBC January -ish)
As a fan of the Manhunter series (Hannibal, Silences of the lambs, Red Dragon, Hannibal rising), my interest is there however, this may as well be titled anything but Hannibal and  been a simple good-guy bad-guy a la CSI ...detective looking for deranged psychopath (s) tv series.
Synopsis:
"Explores the early relationship the renowned psychiatrist and his patient, a young FBI criminal profiler, who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers"

2nd part coming soon....

Review on Reggie Watts

My titled is purposely misleading
This isn't a review but a simple recognition of awesomeness, just take a minute to watch this
You know what...please judge, please judge this guy by his cover, because we all should.
Reggie Watts is bloody entertaining.
I don't care whether you have a  million dollar studio or a a 1000$ studio, chances are you have nothing on this guy. One mic, a sampler and maybe a mixer and he makes more entertaining music than many many many (fuck it)- most artists today.
You watch a clip here:

Or from Conan OBriens late night show...the awesome starts at 2 minutes below

Coming soon to a Television set near you: Bates Motel

Premiering this March on A&E is a  "prequel" series to the famed Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho.
Bates Motel follows the story of a younger Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory) and his mother Norma as they try to rebuild their lives following the death of the father. This fresh start begins as they decide to purchase  a Motel in the coastal town of White Pine Bay. Things may look up at first but the town is riddled with truly fu--ed up residents, and the Bates are now faced with new challenges...which go beyond trying to keep some darker secrets.

Take a look here for  a new teaser

New captures from Iron Man 3 and The Wolverine

Source: EW, Film Trasher

I swear to god, despite the fact that I am excited to see this new Wolverine film, they better not turn it into some spidermanironmantheavangerscatwomendaredeviloriginalbatmanthorrecentsupermanthehulkfantasticfour-esque sh)tshow.

I also have zero expectations and interest for IronMan III. They lost me as a viewer the second they changed the Tony Stark character from the comic book into some extreme over the top arrogant persona.
If Hollywood has rights to a comic book character, then try harder to keep the namesake and visual likeliness, try the fu-k to keep the story relevant and relatable to the source material.

The Hobbit: There & Back Again.....and again....and again....and again...and....

The Hobbit: An  (un) Expected Adventure.

Tonight seems like a perfect night to catch a showing of The Hobbit, this time not in 3D.

I mean why the f--- not.

At a glance: 2013 new releases...the shitty ones

At a Glance: 2013 new releases...

Start off with a negative and end up with a positive.

Here is a list of simply (and probably)  horrific films which will come out in 2013
  • R.E.D 2 ( I kinda like RED but did anyone really even see the first film)
  • Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunter ( No star power and Grimm style storytelling has never worked on the big screen)
  • A Good Day to Die Hard (Die Hard should of died, 3 films ago)
  • The Hangover 3 ( I loved the 1st, they somehow managed to screw up a sequel, a 3rd instalment cannot be good).
  • The Hunger Game: Catching Fire ( Hunger Games, possibly the most underwhelming film I have ever seen..and f--- me, its a trilogy. This is going to be a big hit in theaters, but the story is so god damn boring, its like watching a wanna be Philip K Dick story thrown in with some Twilight tween crap).
  • Smurfs 2 ( does this even deserve a comment?)
  • Iron Man 3 ( Honestly just stupid. If you liked comics when you were a kid, you cannot be excited for this. I for one loved comics.)
  • Grown Ups 2 (I was really hoping the 1st one to be funny, but found myself being upset at such a wasted group of actors starring in such an empty, borderline crappy slapstick humor comedy. And f--- me....there making a sequel.)
  • Anything possibly starring Nicholas Cage.

I will follow with my positive anticipated films sometime tomorrow

Review of: West Of Memphis

Review of: West Of Memphis

As my earlier post suggests, West of Memphis had been on my radar for some time.
Having watched the HBO trilogy Paradise Lost as well as an occasional spectator of the ongoing criminal case, my interest for this documentary was high.
I did enjoy the film ...despite its running time- whopping 2:30hr documentary.
It certainly doesn't give the viewers closure but did satisfy my intrigue with the case.
I can see how the lenght of the film may lose some potentially interested viewers, but for anyone who has heard of the case or cares to watch some absolutely mind boggling lapse of judicial justice, this is a great watch. 7/10

Review on: West Of Memphis documentary coming

I'm super excited about watching this one tonight,
Watch the trailer here
A very important documentary about prejudice, stereotypes and corruption in justice.
Even though I have watched and enjoyed the Paradise Lost trilogy; the story about the West Memphis 3 trials, I am quite ecstatic for this "adaptation" and have to admit that my expectations are high.
This film is backed, as well as co-produced, by Peter Jackson of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
For those of you who may not be familiar with the story, please do take a brief moment to read up on the story of these 3 young men http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Memphis_Three

Coming soon to a theater near you: The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Coming soon to a theater near you:
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
March 15th, 2013
TheIncredibleBurtWonderstone.com

Comedy Starring: Steve Buschemi, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wild, Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini, Jay Mohr and regrettably Steve Carell.

When it comes to comedy, I am always hesitant to discuss or review them since humor is incredibly subjective (some would call me crazy for absolutely hating The 40 year old Virgin and loving Tropic Thunder).
This cast however is amazing, Steve Buschemi, Alan Arkin and James Gandolfini may not be the headline comedians for this film, but they will surely get the most laughs out of me.
Jim Carrey is always great in comedies, despite the quality of his past films, he always does the most with what is given to him.
Jay Mohr will probably play  a lovable, sarcastic, cynical asshole...
Although this film does headline Steve Carell as the title character Burt Wonderstone, I simply do not think this man is funny in any way shape or form. He doesn't bring anything to a role, he isn't physically funny, his delivery isn't funny and the fact that he thinks he's funny makes him oh-so not funny.
Plot summery:
Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt's growing ego. But lately the duo's greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they've grown to loathe each other.

Facing cutthroat competition from guerrilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there's still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act—both onstage and off—if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.

Review on: All Superheroes Must Die rather ... SuperHeroes

This review is somewhat of a mistake,
I was under the impression I would be watching All SuperHeroes Must Die,  however my mistake was a pleasant one where I ended up watching the documentary Superheroes (2011)

For anyone who grew up reading comics and dreaming of either living in a  marvel universe or becoming a real life superhero, this documentary is a must watch.
It is at times awkwardly humorous,  often bizarre,  and very much heartfelt.
From home made costumes and weapons, to real life life-saving situations. I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed not only the topic but the development of the entire story as a whole.
For a documentary which I was not anticipating to watch,  I was pleasently surprised and have to give it a solid  7/10.

How awful does this sound

Who wouldn't want to see a movie with the tagline:
"The leader of a drug cartel busts out of a courthouse and speeds to the Mexican border, where the only thing in his path is a sheriff and his inexperienced staff. " and "Retirement is for sissies"

The film in question is none other than The Last Stand by Korean director Jea-Woon Kim of one of my all-time favorite movies- I Saw The Devil http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1588170/

Unfortunately, neither the tagline nor the mash-up of random actors simply doesn't get me excited...
Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Forrest Whitaker (whom I'm a fan of), Genesis Rodriguez, Peter Stormare, Johny Knoxville, Luis Guzman.
They should have thrown in Sir Ben Kingsley to really throw off viewers

They are calling this a Neo Western,
My guess is the term Neo Western is coined when you make a film with a bunch of Mexican actors, American actors and throw in a random Austrian ex-bodybuilder.

For the sake of everyone involved in this movie, I am hoping that its somewhat comedic in nature.
I fear that it may actually take itself seriously.

New releases to get excited about

What to expect from early Q1 movie releases (I apologize for the corporate lingo).

Normally January is the hangover month of the movie industry.
After a tsunami of December blockbusters, expectations are lessened for films released fresh in the new year.
Here's a short list of what is being released.
I will skip over discussing ill-timed (it isn't hallow e'en yet) and unnecessary releases such as Chainsaw Massacre 3D... I love me some slasher film but not when I'm still replaying Peanuts Christmas for my 4 year old.

Films I'm excited about are:

All Superheroes must die
Gangster Squad &
Mama

Films that might get some people going to theaters are
Broken City &
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunter

January 4
-
All Superheroes Must Die (limited)
-
Texas Chainsaw 3D

January 11
-
A Haunted House

- Gangster Squad

January 18

-
Broken City
-
The Last Stand - Mama

January 25

-
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (3D/2D theaters and IMAX)
-
John Dies at the End (limited)

Best and most disappointing movies of 2012

I will soon post my top 10 favorite movies of 2012 as well as my bottom  10... I won't call it a worst list since many many many movies can be bad, I'll simply call call it my top 10 most disappointing movies of 2012.

Coming soon anticipated horror film Guillermo Del Toro produced: Mama

Mama is based on spanish writter/director Andres Muschietti short film of the same title Mama (2008).
Guillermo Del Toro has attached his name to the project as executive producer.
You can view the trailer here
But first I would strongly suggest watching the short film here on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPmycZaJYNw
