StealThisReviewBlog 2013 Recap
Here is a quick 2013 recap for my blog.
The StealThisReview blog has neared the 10 000 visitor mark within a few months, averaging 250/300 viewers a day.
Things are looking up for 2014, with much more reviews, news and sneak peaks.
I am looking at rebooting the site and including some interviews as well (still in the works)
My top films of 2013 should be up on the site soon, so stay tuned.
Back to movie talk...
2013 is wrapping up and 2014 looks like quite an epic film year.
Expectations were not very high for quality films coming out for 2013, with only a few gems here and there.
Despite a lackluster year for quality films, studios made their money...(others made epic loses), tried and true franchises brought people to theaters and the money kept rolling in (in most cases) for the big studios. There are almost shoe in Oscar winners, many already hailed winners at Cannes earlier this year. The Razzis should also have a wide range of nominees to pick from to honor Hollywood's worst for 2013.
I am very optimistic for the coming year, even if 2014 will be flooded with big Hollywood blockbuster films, there will still be a plethora of great films coming out throughout the year.
2014 has so many releases that it should keep movie goers pretty entertained and busy.
Whether you like independent, big action, adventure, sci-fi, comedy, fantasy, reboots, sequels, prequels, horror, documentary, film noir, bios, grindhouse, etc. you are in for quite a busy year.
Thank you to all readers/viewers and curious lookers.
Happy New Year and may 2014 be more entertaining for us all.

One of my favorite films ever being remade in English: Kim Jee Woon's I Saw the Devil
I Saw The Devil is one of my favorite films of all time, the best vengeance, psychopathic revenge film out there.
Even if the original is in Korean, reading through the subtitles is well worth this amazing film.
It isn't however, for the faint of heart as it is quite gruesome.
In any case Adi Shankar and Spencer Silna's 1984 Private Defense Contractors company has acquired the rights to remake the popular South Korean I Saw The Devil.
Shankar says, "Kim Jee Woon's 'I Saw the Devil' is perfect in so many ways. The intention is not to remake the film per say but rather to 'port' it console style for international c audiences."
In the 2010 Korean original, a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure who embodies pure evil, where we see the villain commits horrifying and senselessly cruel serial murders on defenseless victims, successfully eluding capture by the police. His latest victim is the beautiful Ju-yeon, pregnant fiancee of elite special agent Soo-hyun. Obsessed with revenge, Soo-hyun decides to track down the murderer, even if doing so means becoming a monster himself. And when he finds Kyung-chul, turning him in to the authorities is the last thing on his mind. The lines between good and evil fall away in this diabolically twisted game of cat and mouse.
Trailer for the original can be seen here or below if you have flash

It's official Paul Rudd is Marvel Studios' Ant-Man!
Rumored for the role since earlier this year, Paul Rudd is Marvel Studios' choice to headline Ant-Man! The Wrap reports that the Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues star will play Hank Pym in the July 31, 2015 release.
Set to begin production early next year in Georgia, Ant-Man will be directed by Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the script with Joe Cornish (Attack the Block).
Although there's no assurance yet that it remains the case, Wright's original plans for the film called for both Pym and the later Ant-Man of the comics, Scott Lang, to appear in the feature.
"The idea that we have for the adaptation is to actually involve both... Henry Pym and Scott Lang," Wright told SuperHeroHype some years ago. "So you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60's, in sort of 'Tales to Astonish' mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang's story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him."
The film, which is supposed to launch "Phase Three" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will follow Avengers: Age of Ultron's May 1, 2015 release.

Hugh Hefner Biopic film in the works being produced for Warner Bros.
For nearly over a decade there has been talks about a Hugh Hefner biopic, with different studios interested in bringing the film to life, and different actors attached to the title role ,,,however none of these rumours have come to fruitition,
But now, according to Variety, the film is finally been -seemingly green lit .
Now as for the story, it seems that much of the film will take place during the '70s.
Warner Bros. picked up the project when Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment put it into turnaround after a number of years developing it.

Warner Bros. new take on Peter Pan, now casting Hugh JAckman as vilain
From Variety
The casting for Joe Wright's take on the Peter Pan origin story, called simply Pan, has been coming together to start filming soon for its summer 2015 release date. The first major bit of casting news is that actor Hugh Jackman is in talks to play the villainous pirate Blackbeard, who will play the antagonist role normally filled by Captain Hook.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. had originally gone to Javier Bardem to play the role of Blackbeard but when he passed they went to the actor who had gotten critical praise for his performance in their thriller Prisoners earlier this year.
Blackbeard is an interesting choice of villain since that's actually the name of a real pirate who plagued the high seas during the early 1700s, the nickname of one Edward Teach, and he recently appeared on film in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as played by Ian McShane.
Based on a screenplay by Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift) and produced by Greg Berlanti, the movie acts as an origin story about an orphan taken into the world of Neverland where he becomes a hero to the natives by leading a revolt against the pirates who terrorize them. While Blackbeard would be the antagonist, Hook would still appear in the film as Pan's ally before turning bad. (Reportedly, Ryan Gosling has already passed on the role of Hook.)
The studio has begun an open casting to find a young new actor to play the title role as well as looking for a mid-20s actress to play his love interest Tiger Lily.
Pan is already scheduled for a release date of June 26, 2015.

BBC AMERICA’s Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond, Ian Fleming, the man behind James Bond
Coming out of the BBC and for fans of James Bond of course
Before the countless Bond novels, films and the fans that would follow pop culture’s most suave spy, there was the the man who put some of his own experiences to the page: Ian Fleming.
After his time in Britain’s Naval Intelligence Division, Fleming penned Casino Royale, his first James Bond novel, in 1952. He’d go on to write 12 more through 1964 and would be one of the best-selling British authors of all time. Fleming: The Man Who Would be Bond, a new series by BBC America, follows the writer’s early years where he “is untroubled by the specter of impending war – chasing women, collecting rare books and living off his family fortune.” Fleming finds purpose during the war after being recruited to the Naval Intelligence Division, and an international hero is born, at least in the author’s own head.
Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond is set to make its premiere on Jan. 29 at 10 p.m. EST on BBC America’s Dramaville.

Devil's Due poster & Tailer. Pregnancy, satan, upside down crosses and blood ...Great Fun for the whole family.
From ScreenRant.com
Sometimes, trailers give their movies away by showing off
too much footage, but the above clip for upcoming found footage horror story
Devil’s Due shows off just enough to paint the film as broad and very, very
borrowed. One part Paranormal Activity (the entire series, really), several
parts Rosemary’s Baby, and with a dash of off-brand fare like The House of the
Devil and The Last Exorcism (1 and 2) sprinkled in for good measure, it’s
obvious that Devil’s Due is the sort of genre movie that’s totally unafraid to
blatantly wear its influences on its sleeve.
The problem is that none of them look like they mesh very
well. The basic conceit here revolves around a newlywed couple (Allison Miller
and Zach Gilford) who, upon returning from their honeymoon, find themselves
expecting a bouncing bundle of joy much sooner than they’d anticipated; as the
pregnancy progresses, signs suggest that their child has far more sinister
origins than they realize, while a mysterious cult takes a vested interest in
the baby’s birth from afar.
In other words, the set-up is pretty standard. Maybe the
clip intentionally doesn’t hint at some major script development that turns the
entire premise on its ear, but at a glance, Devil’s Due looks about as rote and
by-the-numbers as possible, with the added twist of being completely
nonsensical to boot. Sure, hubby wants to capture his pregnant wife on tape for
memories and posterity, but when she starts going berserk in parking lots and
doing physical harm to herself, you’d think he’d catch the hint and put his
camera down.
Devil’s Due comes to us courtesy of Fox and filmmaker Matt
Bettinelli-Olpin, who genre aficionados may recognize as twenty five percent of
directing quartet Radio Silence. If that name rings a bell, then you’ve
probably seen 2012′s horror omnibus V/H/S - to which Radio Silence contributed
the final segment, titled “10/31/98.” In the whole of that film, their skit
easily ranks as one of the best, but none of the inventive panache that makes

From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series more casting news
I cannot wait for this one....
Three more actors have been cast for the upcoming "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series." Adrianne Palicki , Jake Busey & Lane Garrison are set to join D.J. Cotrona, Zane Holtz, Jesse Garcia, Don Johnson, Robert Patrick, Madison Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo, Eiza Gonzalez and Wilmer Valderrama.
Palicki will portray Vanessa Styles, a woman from Seth Gecko's past. Lane Garrison will play Pete, the clerk at Benny's World of Liquor which the Gecko brothers take over in the pilot; and Jake Busey stars as Professor Aiden Tanner, an eccentric intellectual obsessed with the Mesoamerican mythology behind the vampires.
Based on Rodriguez's hit film, "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" is a supernatural crime saga centered around bank robber, Seth Gecko (Cotrona) and his violent, unpredictable brother, Richard "Richie" Gecko (Holtz), who are wanted by the FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw (Johnson) and Freddie Gonzalez (Garcia) after a bank heist left several people dead. While on the run to Mexico, Seth and Richie encounter former minister Jacob Fuller (Patrick) and his family, whom they take hostage. Using the family RV to cross the border, chaos ensues when the group detours to a strip club that is populated by vampires. They are forced to fight until dawn in order to get out alive. The series deepens the tone of the film, adds new characters and backstories and expands the Mesoamerican mythology behind the creatures inside the club.

Production Begins on Jason Reitman's very cultural relevent 'Men, Women & Children' starring Adam Sandler, Breaking Bad's Dean Norris
Men, Women & Children follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose - some tragic, some hopeful - as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers.
The film stars Rosemarie Dewitt, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, Dean Norris, Adam Sandler and Emma Thompson. The film is shooting in and around Austin, Texas.

James Cameron shooting 'Avatar’ sequels in New Zealand, all dates confirmed
James Cameron said he expects the films to be released the following December 2016, 2017and 2018
The filmmaker made the announcement at a press conference in
Wellington, N.Z., with the New Zealand’s prime minister John Key.
The three films will spend at least $412 million (500
million in New Zealand dollars) in that nation as a condition of an agreement
between Fox, Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and the government of New
Zealand. In return, the films will receive a film industry tax rebate of 25% —
a figure which was recently increased from 15%.
“The ‘Avatar’ sequels will provide hundreds of jobs and
thousands of hours of work directly in the screen sector as well as jobs right
across the economy,” Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce said in a
statement.
“Avatar” producer Jon Landau and Paul Hanneman, Fox’s
co-presidents of worldwide theatrical marketing and distribution, were also on
hand for the announcment. “New Zealand offers unparalleled support to films of
this scale,” Hanneman said.
Cameron praised the New Zealand production crews and special
effects houses.
“Avatar,” released in 2009, is the highest-grossing movie
with $2.78 billion worldwide. The sci-fi actioner was shot in Los Angeles and
New Zealand.
The deal for the three films receiving the 25% rebate was outlined in a memorandum of understanding between the New Zealand government, Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. It specified that at least $412 million would be spent on production in New Zealand, including most live action filming and visual effects.

Star Wars: Episode VII and Indiana Jones News
Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn gave a speech at
Variety's Dealmakers Breakfast earlier today, where he dropped some updates on
Star Wars: Episode VII, which still doesn't have a completed screenplay yet,
Indiana Jones 5, which also doesn't have a script, and how he won't interfere
with Marvel's creative vision.
Variety writer
Marc Graser has been tweeting throughout the announcements, which reveal that
J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan won't have their screenplay completed until
sometime in January, making this the most rushed movie ever seen in the
franchise. Alan Horn won't reveal the budget, put places it somewhere at $200
million. And Indiana Jones 5 is still a good 2 years away from happening, as
they don't have a story yet. (We see how well that is going for Star Wars). Oh,
and despite the fact that they've had such a tough time getting Star Wars:
Episode VII up and running, you can still expect a new movie every year
starting in 2015. Check out Marc's full tweet session from his speech here.
The lack of a completed script for Star Wars: Episode VII shouldn't be terribly surprising, since J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over the writing duties last month. Still, with shooting scheduled to begin next spring, and no cast members announced yet, it seems this production is already behind schedule before principal photography begins.
As for the
spin-offs, we reported in October that these stand-alone movies will be origin
stories, which will focus on Han Solo and Boba Fett. Simon Kinberg and Lawrence
Kasdan are writing the screenplays for these movies, which will debut in 2016
and 2018, between the new prequel trilogy movies.
Disney acquired
the rights to make Indiana Jones 5 earlier this month, although no screenwriter
is attached at this time, and the project doesn't seem to be a high priority at
Disney. Franchise star Harrison Ford revealed in August that he is still
interested in portraying the iconic archaeologist.
Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters December 18th,
2015 and stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams,
Anthony Daniels. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.

News coming out of Sony.Marvel and Superherohype
Sony Pictures confirmed previous rumors today that they will be developing spin-offs based off of their popular Spider-Man franchise, with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.
The five writers, along with the two producers and Marc Webb, have formed a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films. Under the deals, the studio announced that Kurtzman & Orci & Pinkner are writing the screenplay for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which the studio hopes Webb will return to direct.
